The City of Saskatoon is divided into ten wards, the boundaries of which were established by the Municipal Wards Commission in 2009, in accordance with the provisions of The Cities Act, which stipulates that each ward must contain, as nearly as is reasonably practicable, the same population, and that ward population cannot vary by more than 10% from the figure obtained by dividing the total population of the city by the number of wards.
According to the most recent population estimates, however, Wards Four and Ten have now exceeded the 10% variation limit, while Wards One and Six have fallen below it. A Municipal Wards Commission was struck to establish new ward boundaries, to be in effect for the Municipal and School Boards elections to be held on October 24, 2012.
The Commission has now submitted its final report, which is reproduced below along with the revised ward boundary map. The new ward boundaries will come into effect on Election Day - October 24, 2012.
