Becoming a Group Fitness Instructor is both challenging and gratifying. As an Instructor, you will enjoy the satisfaction of working in an energized environment, promoting health and fitness to people of a variety of shapes, sizes and ages.

The Process

The first step toward becoming a Contract Group Fitness Instructor is simply a matter of getting certified. If you are already certified by an organization recognized by the National Fitness Leadership Alliance (NFLA), then you're well on your way to inspiring a squad of new fitness fans of your own. The City of Saskatoon and neighbourhood Community Associations recognize certifications from the following bodies:

  • Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association (SPRA)
  • YWCA
  • YMCA
  • CALA

If you're not certified, don't worry!

Simply contact the City of Saskatoon to enroll in one of the fitness certification programs. Complete the following modules:

  • Basic Theory,
  • Group Fitness and/or Aqua Fitness and/or Older Adult, and
  • Have a current Standard First Aid and CPR-BLS B Level

Once completed, you're ready to apply to be a Contract Group Fitness Instructor. Just bring in a copy of your fitness certifications and a mentoring application form (forms can be downloaded above).  You will then be matched up with one of our fitness pros for mentoring* - that's it! Health, vitality and an invigorating job are closer than you think!

*applies to City of Saskatoon applicants only
