NEW AT THE ZOO! Lion cubs were born at the Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park & Zoo on September 24, 2011. Due to the timing of the birth, the cubs will not be on public display in the PotashCorp Ark Exhibit until Spring 2012. Until then, photos of the cubs will be continually updated to the slideshow below as well as on the City of Saskatoon's Facebook page.
The PotashCorp Ark Exhibit in currently home to African Lions, Dobi & Cooey and their two cubs! Dobi is a four year old male born in Alberta, and Cooey is an four year old female from Ontario. Over the past two years, they have been become comfortable with their new home in the Ark, where they will be staying for another year.
Lions, known for their strength and courage, are a species at risk due to their depleting numbers over the past 20 years. As the second-largest living member of the cat family, they can be easily identified by their magnificent manes and tan bodies. Lions are the most social of the cats, living in prides comprised of one to two males and up to a dozen related females and their young.
The PotashCorp Ark is designed to enable the Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park & Zoo to house indigenous or non-indigenous animals never before seen in Saskatoon.
It's a natural place to be.
