Populations (SHIR) The SHIR spreadsheet is an 11X17 document which displays the breakdown of the population in Saskatoon by sex and age in five-year cohorts. These populations are also broken down by neighbourhood. This spreadsheet is available for purchase at the Planning & Development Branch (City Hall, 3rd Floor South). It contains the breakdown for the past 10 years as well as thematic maps showing the population distribution by neighbourhood. The cost of this document is $1.25 + tax to cover photocopying costs.
Please note: this data is based on Saskatchewan Health's Insurance Card postal database. It is not a 'census' of people but rather a count of people through registered addresses. Problems lie in that the database is only cleaned every three years, therefore outdated records remain in the system for three years. This results in a low, medium, and high population reporting cycle, where every three years you see figures drop (as is the case with the 2006 data, for example). Data is accurate as of June 30th each year.
