The Future Growth Strategy Group was created in 2008 under the direction of the General Managers of the Community Services Department and Infrastructure Services Department to develop a Master Future Growth Plan for the City of Saskatoon. The Group consists of planning, engineering, and accounting staff from the Planning and Development Branch and the Municipal Engineering Branch.
The Master Future Growth Plan will be sustainable and will be consistent with the City of Saskatoon Official Community Plan (Bylaw 8769), which encourages compact city form and overall incremental densification of the city. The project will take a holistic approach to future growth by modelling and comparing three different growth scenarios:
The project will:
-
examine the strategic sequence for land development (including brownfield and densification opportunities) and expansion into new suburban development areas and neighbourhoods, from 2010 to the limits of the City’s identified future growth sectors;
-
identify the infrastructure required to service this development; and
- estimate the costs associated with developing and upgrading this infrastructure, and estimate the revenues from prepaid service rates charged to land developers.
