www.broadway360.ca
The Broadway 360° Steering Committee invites you to the Broadway 360° Land Use Implementation Open House to learn more about a proposal for a new B5B Commercial Zoning District and Architectural Control District (ACD) for the Broadway Commercial Area.
Properties in the Broadway Commercial Area that are currently zoned B5 – Inner-City Commercial Corridor are proposed to be rezoned to the new B5B Commercial Zoning District, a zoning district designed exclusively for the Broadway Commercial Area. All future development at any property rezoned to B5B would be subject to architectural controls under a proposed Architectural Control District for the area. The proposal is the first phase of implementing the land use-related recommendations of the Broadway 360° Development Plan.
The evening is a ‘Come and Go’ event with a presentation that will be repeated at two separate times, followed by question and answer sessions, and opportunities to view displays outlining the proposed changes. Steering Committee members will be on hand to discuss how the proposed changes will impact future development along Broadway Avenue.
5:30 p.m. – Doors open 6:00 p.m. – Presentation #1 6:30 p.m. – Question & Answer #1 7:30 p.m. – Presentation #2 (repeat of #1) 8:00 p.m. – Question & Answer #2
Drafted in 2009, the Broadway 360° Development Plan was created to help guide future public and private investments and development in the Broadway area. The Broadway 360° Steering Committee is made up of a number of stakeholders; including local residents, business and property owners, developers, and representatives from the Nutana Community Association, Broadway Business Improvement District, and the City of Saskatoon.
Please visit www.broadway360.ca to learn more about the proposed changes.
Mark your calendars and join us on January 19th to learn more. We look forward to seeing you there!

A Technical Workshop will be held to provide a more in-depth discussion on the implications of the proposed changes to land use and building form. It is intended for Broadway area property and business owners, developers, realtors, and anyone else interested in the technical details of the proposed zoning and architectural control district.
Broadway 360° - Technical Workshop Tuesday, January 24, 2012 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. Cosmopolitan Senior Citizens Centre (614 11th Street East)
PLEASE NOTE – The Technical Workshop is not intended as an alternative to attending the Open House. It will not include the presentations, displays, and question and answer sessions planned for the Open House and should not be attended in lieu of that event.

Project Background
In December 2007, Saskatoon City Council partnered with the Broadway Business Improvement District (BBID) and Nutana Community Association (NCA) to launch an innovative planning and public consultation process to address long-standing issues related to development, traffic and parking, and character retention along Broadway Avenue and in the surrounding area. The $60,000 project was jointly funded by the City, the BBID and the NCA.
The project was expected to build on the city’s 2001 Nutana Local Area Plan by consulting a wide cross-section of commercial and residential stakeholders and providing Civic Administration with a set of options and urban planning best practices for successful future development in the community.
A steering committee of business and commercial property owners, residents, and city planners was struck to represent the project’s key stakeholders and oversee the work of the Planning Partnership – a Toronto-based urban planning consulting firm engaged to lead the project and develop recommendations.
With the consultant, this steering committee launched an unprecedented public consultation process that engaged residents, business and commercial property owners, area schools and churches, and those representing Saskatoon’s heritage community. The opinions and ideas of stakeholders were solicited through focus groups, public meetings, a dedicated website, and interactive sidewalk exhibits at the Saskatoon Fringe Festival and Broadway Street Fair.
The Broadway 360o report summarizes this feedback and provides a set of detailed recommendations prepared by the consultant. Click here to view the report. |
