Nicolson Yard Material Handling Site

Due to space limitations, Nicolson Yard Material Handling Site is now accepting appropriate material only from the City of Saskatoon and outside contractors working on City projects (other than land development). Permitted material includes clean concrete free of reinforcing steel, clean recyclable asphalt, and clean earth fill (dirt).

The Nicolson Yard, which is under video surveillance, operates from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, except statutory holidays.  If the Yard is required to be open outside of normal hours, the Contractor is required to provide the engineer with a minimum of two business days notice.

Previously, Nicolson Yard accepted clean concrete and recyclable asphalt from anyone. These materials are now accepted by several private companies for reuse, or at the Saskatoon Landfill at normal tipping rates.

The concrete and asphalt rubble accepted at Nicolson Yard, located about one kilometre east of the railway tracks on 8th Street East, is recycled and used to repair and maintain Saskatoon roadways and alleys. Some of the rock and gravel is used during sewer construction and repair. The clean fill is also reused by the City.
