Snow Angels Program

The Snow Angels Program was launched in 2007 to raise awareness of the need to help neighbours when clearing snow from sidewalks, especially if they’re elderly or have health or mobility restrictions.

Be a Snow Angel

If your neighbour is elderly, has health concerns or mobility restrictions, lend a hand by clearing their sidewalks. And when clearing sidewalks, please exercise caution and care, especially during extremely cold weather.

And if you receive help from your neighbour, nominate them as a “Snow Angel.” Email the Snow Angels Program or write your story to Public Works, City of Saskatoon, 222 – 3rd Avenue North, Saskatoon SK S7K 0J5, along with the name and address of your Snow Angel.

The City will send an anonymous thank-you to the Snow Angel, and enter them into monthly prize draws made this winter.

A Few Snow Angel Stories:

We would like to nominate our neighbour as our Snow Angel. Whenever there is any amount of snow on the sidewalk - he is out there with his snowblower backpack on, circling our cul-de-sac and cleaning everyone's sidewalks, driveways and front steps. He is a great example of how a helpful, thoughtful neighbour should be. Thank you for this "Snow Angel" program. We feel that this program recognizes selfless people who would not normally get a thank you or be appreciated for the kindness they give to others.

Besides cleaning his own walks, my Snow Angel cleans my walks/city sidewalk and also helps out a neighbour, across the road (with health problems)by clearing his driveway and city sidewalk. He is so quick to help out his neighbours. He is one in a million a kind neighbour with a big heart!!!

Last year our Snow Angel got a gas powered – hand held leaf/snow blower and ever since, the walkways and driveways on our block have been clear. She is tireless – every time there is a snowfall, she is out there, blowing the snow from all of our sidewalks and driveways – it takes hours. If you try to give her money to at least cover the gas/oil for the machine, she won’t take it – just a humble reply of “No – I enjoy it”. I can’t tell you how much we appreciate our Snow Angel. If it snows all day, she is out 3-4 times that day to keep up with the falling flakes – Keep in mind, each time she is out it can be for 1.5 – 2 hours. And, when she does the driveway – she first blows the snow off the vehicle and then clears the driveway – even our front deck was cleared during the full day of snow fall this week. Regardless of who you are – elderly, large family, young couple – it doesn’t matter, she shares this good deed with you. She doesn’t just randomly clear snow – it is every time a flake falls!
