The 3rd Avenue Streetscaping project Master Plan stretches from 19th Street to 23rd Street and includes the construction of a planted centre median, corner bulbing and extended bus stop bulbs, sidewalk improvements with amenity strip, street trees, pedestrian light and unique street furniture, two lanes of traffic with shared bike lane in each direction, parallel parking, visual amenities and heritage interpretation features.  

The work will be completed in several phases:

Phase I - 3rd Avenue between 22nd Street and 21st Street
The first phase of construction on 3rd Avenue was between 22nd Street and 21st Street. This work was completed in June 2010.  

Phase II - 3rd Avenue between 21st Street and 20th Street
The second phase of the 3rd Avenue streetscaping project stretches from 21st Street to 20th Street and is scheduled for completion in July 2011.

Phase III - 3rd Avenue from just south of the 20th Street intersection to just north of the 19th Street intersection
The third phase of construction between 19th Street and 20th Street is currently underway and scheduled for completion in July 2011.

Phase IV - 3rd Avenue between between 22nd and 23rd Streets
The fourth and final phase of construction is scheduled for 2013.
