The compost depots are now closed for the season. They will re-open again in April 2012. Many thanks to all residents for taking an active role in resource recovery and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Results from this year's compost depot program will be made available on this webpage in the coming weeks.
The compost depots are open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., seven days a week.
Saskatoon residents are encouraged to reduce waste sent to the Saskatoon Regional Waste Management Centre (Landfill) by bringing their leaves, grass clippings, branches, stumps and tree trimmings to the depots. Elm trimmings and wood are not accepted at the depots.

COMMERCIAL HAULERS TO CITY’S COMPOST DEPOTS TO REQUIRE ENTRY PERMIT
The City of Saskatoon has implemented a new registration process for commercial haulers disposing of organic material at the two City Compost Depots. Effective Monday, August 1, 2011, all commercial haulers will be required to display an entry permit when visiting the compost depots. Any business not displaying a permit after July 31 will be refused service. The depots remain free for residents.
The registration fee for 2011 will be $150.00 for the first vehicle in a business and $25.00 for each additional vehicle. Registration forms are available at the compost depots, City Hall, or online by clicking here (pdf). Payment will be accepted at City Hall (cash, cheque or debit card). View the application guide by clicking here (pdf).
IMPORTANT! - No Elm, or any material that cannot be distinguished from Elm, will be allowed at the depots to ensure the compost remains free of Dutch Elm Disease. Compost Depot staff will screen all tree debris to ensure no elm is dropped off. Elm branches must be disposed of at the Saskatoon Regional Waste Management Centre (Landfill). It is illegal to cut or prune elm during the pruning ban from April 1 to August 31. Additionally, dimensional lumber and woodchips are also not accepted at the depots.
Compost is ready-to-use organic matter and is used to replace much-needed nutrients to the soil. Composting works as bacteria and fungi break down organic matter (leaves, grass, pumpkins, etc.) in the pile. These tiny creatures occur naturally on the compost materials.
Compost from Saskatoon's two depots is used to keep Saskatoon parks and community gardens healthy and beautiful.
