For Immediate Release: March 12, 2010

The warmer weather means that the annual spring street sweeping program will begin on Monday, March 15 with road maintenance crews working night and day to clean every street in the city. First to be swept are priority streets and roadways in the commercial areas. Major roadways will be swept at night to avoid daytime traffic congestion.
Sweeping of residential streets will begin in late April, weather permitting. Residents will be notified of sweeping in their area through door hangers or temporary “No Parking” signs, about two days in advance.
Each year thousands of tonnes of sand and debris are cleaned from the 1,125 kilometres of road in Saskatoon, preventing the material from going into our storm sewer system, reducing dust, and making streets safer for cyclists, pedestrians, and motorists.
Motorists are reminded to be patient and to drive carefully when they encounter slow moving street sweeping vehicles.
