For Release: March 8, 2010IS10-066
Starting Thursday March 11, 2010, crews will begin pruning City trees in the Meadowgreen neighbourhood. This tree pruning program is part of the overall plan for maintaining the health of Saskatoon’s urban forest, particularly elm trees. Currently, the City’s trees are scheduled to be pruned once every seven years. Tree maintenance operations will continue until the end of March, weather permitting.
Pruning crews will remove any broken, dead, weak, diseased branches and limbs, and remove any branches obstructing pedestrian and vehicular traffic. They will also maintain appropriate clearances from buildings, signs, streetlights, and utility wires. Trees with significant dieback or decay, or that have become a threat to public safety, will be removed. Prior to commencing any work, all trees will be evaluated by one of the City’s arborists.
Tree maintenance may require occasional road restrictions. Motorists are reminded to please drive carefully, obey all road restrictions, and watch for work crews in the area.
The City of Saskatoon thanks residents for their patience.
