The City of Saskatoon has been selected as one of the top employers in the province. The achievement is highlighted in a magazine supplement in today’s Saskatoon StarPhoenix and Regina Leader Post.
“We’ve been Canada’s best-kept secret, but word is starting to get out,” Employment & Total Compensation Manager Mubarka Butt says.
The City applied for the competition last year, and the winners are selected according to a number of factors including: the physical workplace; work atmosphere; benefits; vacation and time off; employee communications; performance management; training and skills development; and community involvement.
The City was compared to other organizations in its field with more weight given to the amount of progressive and forward-thinking programs.
The City of Saskatoon prides itself on being a “21st century city” and encouraging a culture of continuous improvement. It employs more than 3,500 people and offers a broad range of career opportunities.
“Everything that you can see in the city -- structure, service and development -- speaks to the fact that there are people who made this happen, and those are our employees,” Butt says.
City Manager Murray Totland says City employees work for a vibrant organization which is a product of its diverse and dedicated workforce. Totland says the unique approach is reflected in the recently released Strategic Plan.
“The City must be adaptable,” Totland says. “Saskatoon is a ‘can-do’ city, and our employees bring that attitude with them to work every day.”
