For Immediate Release: October 2, 2012
African lions Dobi and Cooey, and their two cubs Nathan and Shadow, will be leaving Saskatoon this November. The exact date of their departure has not yet been determined.
Originally on loan from Alberta and Ontario, Dobi and Cooey have lived in the PotashCorp Ark Exhibit at the Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park & Zoo since November 2008. On September 24, 2011, they welcomed lion cubs Nathan and Shadow, who were locally named by ten year old Jonathan McLeod in memory of his cousin Nathan, who passed away in 2010 of leukemia at the age of six.
In celebration of the lions’ final days in Saskatoon, zookeepers will be on hand to answer questions at the PotashCorp Ark Exhibit over the Thanksgiving long weekend from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. each day (October 6, 7, and 8). Don’t miss this opportunity to learn more about these majestic animals before they go!
The PotashCorp Ark is designed to enable the Forestry Farm Park & Zoo to house animals never before seen in Saskatoon. Plans are currently underway to fill the PotashCorp Ark Exhibit with a new feature animal for the 2013 season.
Forestry Farm gates are currently open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and the Zoo is open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. For more information on the Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park & Zoo, please visit www.saskatoon.ca/go/zoo.
