Harry Bailey Aquatic Centre Upgrade & Facility Closure
Last Updated October 3, 2025
Work at the Harry Bailey Aquatic Centre is progressing well, with approximately 76% of construction now complete. The project remains within budget and on track for substantial completion in spring 2026, with the facility reopening to the public on September 1, 2026.
What’s Been Completed So Far
- Major upgrades to the 50-metre competition pool and diving tower are nearing completion, including concrete wall pours, grouting, and waterproofing. Systems that will circulate, clean, and heat the pool are being prepared.
- The new ventilation system in the pool hall has been fully tested and balanced.
- Inside, work continues in the newly reconfigured change rooms, fitness areas, and multipurpose spaces, with recent progress on tiling, ceiling framing, electrical upgrades and fire sprinkler testing.
- On the exterior, site grading, pathway work, and roof inspections are finished. Flat-roof parapet cladding and capping are being installed to strengthen the building envelope and improve appearance.
What’s Next
Over the coming weeks, construction will focus on completing the main scope of work before moving into commissioning and final touches. Key activities include:
- Completing pool wall grouting and applying the final waterproofing.
- Connecting the pool’s main drains and water systems in preparation for water-tightness testing.
- Beginning to heat the building with permanent mechanical systems.
- Completing ceilings, walls, and finishes inside the changerooms and administrative spaces.
- Pouring outdoor concrete pads and finishing landscaping on the east side.
With more than three-quarters of construction complete, the project is now entering its final stages. These improvements will ensure the Harry Bailey Aquatic Centre reopens as a modern, reliable, and welcoming space for swimmers and the community.
Looking Ahead
Work will continue this fall and winter on pool systems, mechanical installations, and interior finishes. Planning is also underway for furnishings, signage, and IT systems to ensure the facility is fully ready for reopening.
