Hiring Process

Competitions are posted each day and include a deadline for applications.

The intended audience for the current employment opportunities includes both internal employees and members of the general public.  There is an obligation under the provisions of the collective bargaining agreements to consider all internal candidates prior to considering members of the general public.

Application

All applicants are given the opportunity to apply online through saskatoon.ca/careers.

  • Pre-Screening

  • Out-of-scope positions (non-unionized) – we review the resumes and/or cover letters we receive internally and externally after a posting closes. We compare what the qualifications from each applicant’s resume are with the qualifications we noted in the job posting. We then identify our top candidates based on that process.

  • In-scope positions (unionized) - we review the resume and/or cover letter of internal applications after the posting closes. We compare what the qualifications from each applicant’s resume are with the qualifications we noted in the job posting and then identify who among the qualified internal candidates have the most seniority. We then identify our senior qualified candidates based on that process.

  • We review the external applications based on qualifications and the job posting if there are no qualified internals in accordance with the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Interview

  • If selected for an interview, you will be contacted by email and will be provided with interview details.

  1. Out-of-scope positions (non-unionized) - we interview our shortlisted candidates using a consistent interview and/or activity guide. We identify our preferred candidate based on how well they faired on the interview.

  1. In-scope positions (unionized) - we interview or meet with our senior qualified candidates using a consistent interview guide. We identify our successful candidate upon confirming that they have the qualifications and are the most senior.

We review the external applications based on qualifications and the job posting if there are no qualified internals in accordance with the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.
