What Are We Asking?
The City of Saskatoon (City) is working towards protecting, managing, and restoring natural areas in Saskatoon. We are now engaging community stakeholders and various user groups in the development of natural area management plans for Richard St. Barbe Baker Afforestation Area and the Small Swale.
This initiative is one of many within the Pathways for an Integrated Green Network Implementation Plan for the Green Infrastructure Strategy, which works towards an integrated green network in Saskatoon.
Project Goals
In 2022-2023, through the Natural Areas Program the City is working to:
- Create a template for a natural area management plans
- Create pilot management plans for high priority natural areas
- Develop a consistent approach to identifying, protecting, and managing natural areas through policy and processes
- Develop a city-wide Natural Areas Program
How Can You Get Involved?
From October 2022 to September 2023 we are engaging community stakeholders and users groups in the development of the natural areas management plans for the two pilot sites.

Past Engagement
Information Sessions - September 2023
Community stakeholders and user groups were invited to participate in our Natural Areas Management Plan Information Sessions. During these events, the draft natural area management plans for the sites were presented for feedback on whether the plans support the needs of the community while ensuring the conservation of these important natural areas.
