What Are We Asking?
Kiwanis Memorial Park (both north and south of the Delta Bessborough Hotel) is currently one of four areas in Saskatoon that prohibits pets both on-leash and off-leash. It is also the only riverbank park where pets are not permitted. Due to feedback received from residents and the local business community, the City of Saskatoon is proposing to allow on-leash pets in Kiwanis Memorial Park. Allowing pets in Kiwanis Memorial Park could provide the opportunity for downtown residents to access their neighbourhood green space, attract people with pets to live downtown, and improve the quality of life for residents.
From August – September 2021, we engaged the community on whether on-leash pets should be allowed in Kiwanis Memorial Park. Engagement feedback, along with best practice research and internal City considerations, will be provided to City Council in Fall 2021.
