City Council approves Waste Diversion Plan for Businesses and Organizations
On January 27, Saskatoon City Council approved a regulatory approach to enhance waste diversion in the Industrial, Commercial and Institutional (ICI) sector. City Administration engaged with 870 participants from businesses and organizations through workshops, online surveys, and face-to-face meetings to develop this approach. The City will use a phased approach that will see education and assistance with early compliance for recycling starting in mid-2021, with full enforcement starting one year later. A similar phased approach will start in mid-2022 for organics.

Hey Businesses and Organizations! Let's talk trash.
The City of Saskatoon is engaging with businesses and organizations in the community to look at ways to divert and reduce waste.
We Want to Talk About
- How you, private waste haulers, and the City can work together to divert recycling and organics
- What types of waste you are diverting now, how it’s working, and if there are challenges
- What materials will be part of the diversion requirements and how they are phased in
- What you need in order to be able to separate and divert recyclables and organics
- What proof of diversion the City might require
- Innovative ways to reduce waste or reuse materials locally
