Project Coordinator

Department or Division: Facilities Management

Term: Temporary full-time for approximately two years

Duties:

  1. Develops functional programs and plans, including design and construction coordination, engineering and design review and tender preparation for assigned projects, to verify the clients’ needs, space and program requirements.Develops budget estimates, suitable for capital planning purposes, for the projects.

  2. Analyses and recommends the award of consultant contracts based on the Requests For Proposals.In cooperation with the applicable Superintendents and the Superintendent Special Projects, where project work is to be done using internal trades staff, develops time and staffing estimates for planning purposes.

  3. Prepares and reviews tender documents, provides contract administration services during the construction and post-construction phases of work.

  4. Coordinates and organizes staff to carry out the work, assuming responsibility for planning, materials, staff management on-site and coordination with the appropriate Superintendent and client group.

  5. Analyses bids and awards, or recommends the award of, construction and service contracts for project work.

  6. Supports and promotes a safe and positive workplace culture through a variety of initiatives and activities.

  7. Supports and promotes the health and safety of employees in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act & Regulations in addition to the City of Saskatoon’s Administrative Occupational Health & Safety Policies and departmental procedures.

  8. Oversees the delivery of projects through pre-construction visits, site inspections and visits during construction, routine project meetings and discussions, problem-resolution and necessary negotiations to ensure the project is delivered on time, within budget and with the quality of workmanship that meets the expectations of the Superintendent involved and the client department.

  9. Commissions the projects, with the contractor and the Division staff responsible for the facility, by testing all aspects of the work to ensure that it meets operational and maintenance expectations.

  10. Records time spent on project work and costs for the project in accordance with Division procedures.

  11. Coordinates, and reviews for completeness, record drawing documents and operations and maintenance manuals.Authorises documents, related to as-built drawings, submitted to the Maintenance Support Section for filing.

  12. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 education.

  • Possession of a Saskatchewan Journeyman Certificate in a related trade, including completion of a recognized apprenticeship program, plus five years' subsequent, related building construction experience, including all aspects of on-site project management and project administration.
    OR
    Graduation from a recognized, two-year, post-secondary architectural or related engineering technology program plus five years' related building construction experience, including all aspects of on-site project management and project administration.

  • Possession of a Facility Management Administrator Certificate, Master Certificate in Project Management or a Certified Construction Contract Administrator designation would be an asset.

  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s Licence.

  • Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.

  • Thorough knowledge of current building components, construction methods and materials.

  • Considerable knowledge of applicable codes and regulations which govern the design, construction and operation of facilities, e.g. occupational health and safety legislation and regulations and the National Building Code.

  • Knowledge of project management processes and supporting computerized systems.

  • Knowledge of contract law and supporting corporate documentation.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally, in writing and using free-hand drawings.

  • Ability to write and interpret specifications.

  • Skill in the use of a computer with applications including, spreadsheets, databases and electronic mail.

Salary: $5,801.70 to $6,396.40 per month (2018 rates)
