Capacity restrictions for critical public services and allowable business services

For immediate release: December 15, 2020 - 4:01pm
FI20-1820

The City is doing its part slow the spread of COVID-19 cases in Saskatoon. We have made many staffing and service changes so our employees can safely deliver services to residents and to make sure people remain physically apart from one another.

The Saskatoon Fire Department acknowledges that the National Fire Code 2015 Division B, Clause 2.7.1.3.(1)(a) as referenced in the latest Provincial Health Order released on December 14 is not applicable to all buildings in Saskatoon.

Furthermore, the occupant load determined by Building Standards' building permit process uses the National Building Code which differs from the National Fire Code. The occupant load determined by the National Building Code is not applicable to the provincial restrictions.

The Saskatoon Fire Department and Building Standards are both working with partners at the Provincial Government to clarify the occupant load for critical public services and allowable business services. Additional information will be provided as soon as possible.

Updates will continue to be provided at saskatoon.ca/covid-19.
