COVID-19 Daily update on changes to programs and services July 3, 2020

For immediate release: July 3, 2020 - 4:01pm
20-1373

The City is doing its part to flatten the curve of COVID-19 cases in Saskatoon. We have made many staffing and service changes so our employees can safely deliver services to residents and to make sure people remain physically apart from one another. This way we can all work together by staying apart – it will protect the health of essential frontline healthcare staff, core service workers and first-responders. These actions in turn protect all of us.

George Ward and Riversdale Pools Opening Soon for the Season

Just in time to beat the heat, two City outdoor pools will open for public swimming this summer!  Riversdale Pool (822 Avenue H South) will open July 7 and George Ward Pool (1915 5th Street East) will open on July 8 in full compliance with the guidelines and restrictions as required by the Chief Medical Health Officer and regulated under the Government of Saskatchewan’s Re-open Saskatchewan plan.

To keep everyone safe while allowing as many people to enjoy the pools this season, swimming will be limited to 2-hour sessions, including admission and exit times. There will be a 30-minute break between each session to allow our staff to clean common areas.

Beginning July 6, your swim session can be booked up to 2 days in advance by calling 306-975-2855, with phone lines open from 9:00 a.m. to 6 p.m. Online bookings will be available in the future – please check the website below for updates. There will be a limited number of walk-in spots available each session, but please keep in mind there may be line-ups so pre-booking is encouraged.

Know before you go! Protect yourself and others from COVID-19 while using outdoor pools by following these guidelines:

  • Do not come to the pool if you are sick.
  • Always stay 2 metres apart from those not in your group.
  • Wash or sanitize your hands regularly, especially after touching shared surfaces.
  • Follow instructions while at the pool from staff and on signage.
  • Bring your own seating (such as a lawn chair or blanket) and water to drink.
  • Washrooms and change rooms are available with physical distancing requirements in place.
  • You must be 14 years of age to attend without parents or guardians.
  • Other regulations are in place and are outlined on our website.

Please be aware that outdoor pools will be cleared immediately if lightning occurs and will also close if the temperature is 14 degrees or lower, or during steady rain conditions. Sign up for Service Alerts for immediate updates.

Red Cross swim lessons will not be offered at the outdoor pools to allow the public as many public swimming opportunities as possible during this shortened season.

Check saskatoon.ca/outdoorpools for all the details, admission rates and products, and pool hours.
