Idylwyld Drive South off-ramp to Ruth Street closed overnight
City crews will be microsurfacing the Idylwyld Drive SB exit ramp to Ruth Street tonight. The work will be undertaken at night to limit the impact on road users.
This section of Idylwyld Drive is one of approximately 70 locations where microsurfacing is scheduled to take place in the city in 2018. Other high traffic routes that will receive this treatment include segments of the Sid Buckwold Bridge and 51st Street.
Microsurfacing is a road surfacing treatment that preserves the roadway. It’s applied to weathered or worn surfaces that are structurally sound.
Signs will be in place advising drivers of the upcoming road restrictions and remind them to reduce speeds to 60 km/hr in the work zone. Speed reductions are put in place for the safety of the workers and the road users. Fines for speeding in a work zone have increased to $440 for driving 20 km/hr over the speed limit and $1,008 when speeds reach 40 km/hr over the speed limit.
