Reminder: City-Wide notifynow TEST Message This Wednesday, December 6

For immediate release: December 4, 2017 - 1:33pm
FR17-127

This Wednesday, December 6, 2017,  the City of Saskatoon’s Emergency Measures Organization (EMO) will send a notifynow TEST message to residents of Saskatoon at 10:00 a.m.  The message will clearly indicate that this is a TEST. notifynow sends a TEST message twice a year to residents; this helps to assist residents with becoming more  familiar with the notifynow messaging system, and also allows the EMO to assess the efficiency of the notifynow database.

notifynow messages alert you so you’ll know what to do, where to go, & what to expect should there be an emergency situation in Saskatoon, or one only affecting your neighbourhood. Some examples of emergency situations where you could receive a notifynow safety message could be an extreme weather situation (tornado, major blizzard), hazardous materials spill, train derailment, or plane crash. notifynow is a free service.

If you have a publicly listed phone number, you may receive the TEST message. However it’s best to go into the system online and customize your communication preferences to tell us how to best reach you.  Ensure your contact information is up to date – we can’t reach you with a timely notifynow safety message in an emergency situation if your contact information is incorrect.

Visit saskatoon.ca/notifynow today and tell us your communication device preference – landline, cellphone, text or email, or register a few options. The notifynow system will send your notifynow message to the devices that you specify. You are also able to sign-up your family members for notifynow, and up to five addresses that are important to you.

Residents with an unlisted, or not publicly available phone number, those who have just moved to Saskatoon, and those without a landline, will need to sign-up at saskatoon.ca/notifynow to receive their notifynow messages.

The ability to receive timely emergency communications is critical to persons with hearing or speech difficulties. To receive accessible notifynow messages, enter up to two different TTY electronic device methods for text communication via telephone.

Take  a few minutes to sign-up for notifynow, it's easy to do. Tell us how best to reach you, and be ready to receive your notifynow TEST message on Wednesday, December 6 at 10:00 a.m.

Visit saskatoon.ca/notifynow  to sign-up and for more information, or call 306-975-3210.
