As renovation season gets into full swing, don’t forget new energy efficiency requirements are in effect.
With the warm weather comes renovation season. As you plan that new garage or addition, remember that any building and development work in Saskatoon must adhere by the new energy efficiency requirements that came into effect on January 1, 2019.
Renovations and builds now have to adhere to the 2017 National Energy Code for Buildings and Section 9.36 of the 2015 National Building Code. Energy efficiency in the building sector is essential to address climate change, as buildings are a significant source of energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. Any building or development permits issued since January 1 must meet these new requirements to enhance sustainability.
