One more way to take Reconciliation action in conjunction with the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Registration has opened for the 8th Wîcihitowin Indigenous Engagement Conference. After two years of meeting virtually, this year’s conference will be held in person at TCU Place on November 28-29. There is also an option to attend virtually.

On National Day for Truth & Reconciliation the City of Saskatoon will show support and honour residential school survivors and their families by hosting free Indigenous activities including hoop dancing, Metis jigging, art and storytelling at Cosmo Civic Centre (3130 Laurier Drive) on Friday, September 30 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.  All residents are welcome to attend.

The City of Saskatoon and Reconciliation Saskatoon are co-hosting a Pipe Ceremony & Survivors’ Flag Raising this morning to start the week that includes the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation.

“Our objective is to collectively set intentions for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and the Rock Your Roots Walk for Reconciliation,” says Pipe Carrier and Knowledge Keeper, Corine Eyahpaise. “We are coming together to reflect and also to set our sights on a brighter future for every member of this community.”

Recognized nationally, the week is meant to raise awareness about the right of all citizens to access information held by public bodies and the benefits of transparent, open and accountable government. Right to Know Day, which promotes freedom of information worldwide, is recognized internationally on September 28.

Police and Peace Officers’ National Memorial Day is Sunday, September 25, 2022.  In recognition, flags at all City of Saskatoon facilities will fly at half-mast for the day.

Police and Peace Officers’ National Memorial Day is recognized every year in Canada on the last Sunday in September. The day pays tribute to the hard work, dedication and sacrifice police and peace officers have made toward the safety of Canadians.

The Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park & Zoo (Zoo) is deeply saddened to announce the loss of Buddy, a 15-year-old grey wolf. Animal care and veterinary staff made the difficult decision to euthanize the geriatric wolf due to his declining health associated with his advanced age.

With bi-weekly service, residents will see no change to their collection day but are encouraged to visit saskatoon.ca/collectioncalendar or download the Saskatoon Waste Wizard app to confirm how bi-weekly collection will impact their schedule and to ensure they don’t miss collection day.

This summer has been a memorable one at the Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park & Zoo, from celebrating a big 50-year milestone, to new exhibits and the return of guided train tours, visitors have been able to experience all kinds of new adventures so far this year. As we approach the fall season, the Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park & Zoo has adjusted its hours of operation. The Forestry Farm Park gates will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and the Zoo will be open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Parking is now free until May 1, 2023.
