U of S construction: Preston Avenue partly closed for approximately 2 weeks
Construction activity around the new entrance to the University of Saskatchewan Merlis Belsher Ice Facility beside the Saskatoon Field House is going to pick up over the next few weeks. Starting Monday, June 25, contractors will begin excavating a section of Preston Avenue beside the facility to allow crews to tie into the sanitary/storm sewer under the roadway.
This will necessitate a full closure of Preston Avenue between 14th Street and College Drive for approximately 15 days, weather permitting and barring unforeseen issues. For safety reasons, as this project involves deep pit excavation, there will also be no access to sidewalks or bike paths while this project is underway. Message boards are now in place to advise drivers of the coming closure and signage will stay in place for the duration of construction to provide advance warning at key junctures.
The Saskatoon Field House will remain open throughout construction and continue to offer its regular programming. Residents will need to access the facility by Stadium Crescent off College Drive.
People will see an increase in heavy equipment, trucks and trailers, and additional material on site as this project gets underway. To limit the impact to the public, work is being done at the end of the school year after students have finished using the surrounding facilities and before summer programs get underway.
