Winter conditions continue on roads and sidewalks: use caution

For immediate release: November 6, 2018 - 8:20am
TU18-618

Drivers and sidewalk users are encouraged to use caution this morning on their commute as everyone adjusts to winter road and sidewalk conditions.
City crews were out overnight plowing and grading high traffic roads, and continue to apply a combination of pre-wet sand and salt to reduce ice.

What you can expect from us

  1. Crews are actively sanding and salting roadways.
  2. Even with the use of salt and sand, extra moisture from snow may cause slippery conditions during peak driving times, especially on bridges where ice particles are in the air above the river.
  3. Transit service alerts and real-time tracking information is available on the app called Transit.

How you can help us

  1. Slow down and use extra caution.
  2. Watch for blue and amber flashing lights on snow maintenance equipment. If you encounter equipment on the road, slow down, remain at least 15 metres (2.5 car lengths) behind, and be ready to stop.
  3. When safe to do so, drivers can report icy locations to the 24-hour Customer Service Centre at 306-975-2476 or email snow@saskatoon.ca.
