Wondering what to do with your fallen leaves and yard waste this fall?
Proper disposal of leaves prevents them from blowing onto boulevards and sidewalks and collecting in gutters causing flooding in the spring. It is the homeowner’s responsibility to maintain sidewalks and boulevards adjacent to their property; pushing or blowing leaves onto the street is not allowed.
There are several options for composting fallen leaves and other organic waste from yards this fall:
- Leaves and yard waste can be dropped off for free at the City’s compost depots. More at saskatoon.ca/compostdepots
- Consider home composting with helpful suggestions at saskatoon.ca/healthyyards.
- Green Cart subscribers can place loose leaves and other yard waste in their green cart for regular collection until November 7. More at saskatoon.ca/greencart
- As a last resort, leaves can be placed in black carts – in bags to prevent loose material from spilling out of the cart during the collection process.
Fall street sweeping starts October 15 in select neighbourhoods. Don’t let your car get swept away! Starting October 1, enter your address at saskatoon.ca/sweeping to find out if and when sweeping will occur in your area this fall.
