Download BRT Consultation Summary: Fall 2017
What we asked...
From December 1 - 15, we asked you to review the City's Transit System Plan which included the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Preferred Configuration, and the Saskatoon Transit System Plan reconfiguration. We asked you to help us understand the benefits and impacts of these plans on our services moving forward. Thank you for helping us refine this important Plan for Growth work!
What We Heard...
BRT Preferred Configuration
The BRT is generally seen as a positive addition to Saskatoon Transit. Respondents generally support the BRT Preferred Configuration, however, uncertainty remains about the relationship between BRT and other transit routes in the overall route network. Concerns were raised about the costs and benefits of the BRT system, as well as impacts on street parking and traffic along planned runningways.
Transit System Plan
Overall respondents voiced concern about Saskatoon Transit's current service. We received 370 comments identifying opportunities to improve transit service - with the comments focused on improved frequency, reliability, directness, improved customer service, driver friendliness, stop amenities, snow removal and service information.
Improve the reliability and frequency of transit service...
You told us that buses are often late, and that you experience long wait times. Those of you that ride the bus noted infrequent service - with often 30 minutes between buses. A number of respondents identified the need for better service during non-peak times / days (i.e. early morning, evenings and Sunday service).
Improve route directness and travel times...
Respondents asked for better connections between communities and other major hubs outside of the downtown and the University of Saskatchewan. A common theme was the need for decreased travel times, and decreased number of stops along certain specific routes.
Improve stops, stations, customer systems and experience...
Heated shelters, increased security measures at stations, better snow removal, digital signage, real-time app information, driver friendliness, fare payment systems, and maps and schedules at stops were some of the things that you identified as future improvement needs.
What Happens Next?
The answers and comments provided in this survey have been used to help develop the next stages of the transit system reconfiguration plan. What you told us is an important consideration for future work on this project.
