As an emerging newcomer artist to Canada, Muveddet experienced the impact of borders of all types – from her formative years in Turkey as well as in her new surroundings in Canada. She is seeking a way to share an artistic path with others who are also experiencing the borders of life in a new country. Muveddet has created a body of work entitled Creating Bridges: East and West that’s included in the Saskatchewan Arts Board Permanent Collection, the University of Saskatchewan Permanent Collection, the Embassy of Turkey in Ottawa Permanent Collection, as well as numerous private collections. Creating Bridges: East and West reflects the bridging of cultures, done in mixed media on canvas with coins, metallic leaf and rich textural additions. The theme of the series is a way of sharing the story of the diversity of peoples and cultures in our community as a result of immigration – crossing borders to a new place, a new community and new way of life.

Artists in Place: The Bunkhouse Project is an artist-in-residence pilot program sponsored by the City of Saskatoon, with a grant from the Saskatchewan Arts Board’s Artists in Communities program.
