Skating Oval
The Clarence Downey Speed Skating Oval is managed by the Gordie Howe Sports Complex on behalf of the City of Saskatoon. The Oval offers an exciting change of pace and scenery for skating enthusiasts. There are multiple lanes available for different speeds and plenty of room for every level of skater (and speed skates are not required to participate). A new warm-up and washroom facility is under construction and in the meantime, temporary shacks are available for skaters to change their skates.

The City of Saskatoon thanks citizens for their patronage. Public skating at the indoor municipal rinks will be available until Sunday, March 28. Visit saskatoon.ca/leisureonline for the public skating schedule and to book a visit.

COVID-19 Response: Clarence Downey Speed Skating Oval
Clarence Downey Speed Skating Oval will open on December 15, in full compliance with the guidelines and restrictions as required by the Chief Medical Health Officer and regulated under the Government of Saskatchewan's Re-open Saskatchewan plan:
Know Before You Go
- Stay home if you are sick and experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms.
- Always stay 2 meters apart from those not in your group and 3 metres apart when participating in physical activity.
- Non-medial face masks must be worn at all times in the Clarence Downey Speed Skating Oval area including the ice surface and warm-up area.
- The number of people on the Oval at once must not exceed the restrictions on public gatherings (30 people maximum as of November 2020).
- A maximum of 15 people may use the warm-up building at a time and 3 metres of distance must be maintained in accordance with the Public Health Orders.
- Sanitize your hands before and after using the rink.
Private Rentals
Gordie Howe Sports Complex manages booking arrangements for the Oval. Members of the public can easily view available rental times and book the Oval for events online by visiting app.bookking.ca/gordiehowesportscomplexpub.
Fun Fact!
The Oval was named after the first coach of the Saskatoon Lions Speed Skating Club.
