Boulevard Gardens Program and Centre Median Garden Pilot
Boulevard and Centre Median Garden Contest!
We appreciate the care that homeowners and renters take in maintaining the boulevards adjacent to their homes. You may also garden on your boulevard if you read the Boulevard Garden Guidelines and complete an agreement using the intake form below.
In addition to boulevard gardening, the City is now allowing gardening on centre medians of local streets. Gardeners who are interested in planting on centre medians need to read the Centre Median Garden Guidelines and fill in an application using the intake form below.
What is a Boulevard and Centre Median Garden?
Boulevard gardens are public, City-owned spaces between the sidewalk and street curb that are planted and maintained by residents.
Centre median gardens are public, City-owned spaces on local streets and are the green spaces located between the two roads.
Both boulevard and centre median gardens can grow food and community, add beauty to neighbourhoods, provide habitat, and help manage storm water.
For your own and others’ safety, please Call Before You Dig (1-866-828-4888) to confirm the location of underground utilities before getting started.
The City of Saskatoon and utility providers may require occasional access to the boulevard to maintain underground utilities, build or repair sidewalks, install street signage, access hydrants, or prune street trees. This could mean that plants or other garden features may be removed or damaged.
Before installing a boulevard or centre median garden, please fill out the City of Saskatoon’s intake form below. Please note centre median gardens require a sketch of the median garden plan specifically outlining City trees or structures that fall near the garden to be submitted with the intake form. Centre median gardens will require a signed letter of agreement that will be sent by the City upon receiving the intake form.
