Part of what makes Saskatoon such a great place to live is the quality of life we enjoy with safe and revitalized neighbourhoods. The residential parking permit program zones are for Saskatoon residential neighbourhoods where street parking is at a premium due to high parking demand from nearby businesses or schools.
Starting in 1999, the City of Saskatoon implemented residential parking permit zones for neighbourhoods that see high levels of transient parking. In order for a neighbourhood to implement a parking zone, 70% of the residents have to support the initiative.
Time restrictions which can vary from zone to zone, are posted on selected streets and remain in effect from Monday to Friday. Any vehicle parked on the street longer than the posted time limit may be ticketed if a valid Parking Permit is not displayed.
Permits will be issued to applicants who reside in a single or multiple-unit dwelling with up to four units. Residents who reside in multiple unit dwellings with more than four dwelling units can purchase residential permits to a maximum of two permits per dwelling if the residents do not have off-street parking, or do not have an adequate number of assigned off-street parking spaces for the number of residents living in the dwelling. TYPES OF PERMITS
There are four types of permits available: Residential, Limited Residential, Visitor and Temporary.

RESIDENTIAL – Each resident will be limited to one residential permit. If there are three vehicles and three drivers in the household, each person can obtain a residential permit. If a person lives alone but owns two cars, he/she can only obtain one residential permit. Permits are permanently affixed to the vehicle and are not transferable, as the license plate number is displayed on the permit. Residential permits are valid anywhere within the Parking Permit Zone.
LIMITED RESIDENTIAL - Limited residential parking permit zones are limited to within 150 metres of an institutional property and provide an effective solution to the problems associated with transient on-street parking in residential neighbourhoods. The permit requirements are the same as a residential permit.
VISITOR – The visitor permit is a transferable permit that can be given to a guest when they come to visit. These permits are restricted to one per dwelling unit. Visitor permits are not issued to residents who reside in multiple unit dwellings with more than four units.
The manager of a multiple unit dwelling with more than four units can apply to receive up to three visitor permits for use by maintenance and other personnel while attending to business at the building. Visitor permits are not available in limited residential parking zones. Visitor permits are restricted to the block face - see diagram.
TEMPORARY – Residents of a dwelling unit are eligible to hold a temporary permit for a total of 30 days in any one permit year. The temporary permit will be valid for the dates indicated on the permit. The temporary permit is intended for special occasions where a large number of people would be coming to your house (i.e. family reunion, etc.). You can obtain these in advance of the event. Temporary permits are restricted to block face - see diagram.
Contractor temporary permit - A resident or contractor may obtain a temporary parking permit to park in front of a residence within a parking permit zone where work is taking place for up to two weeks. Please arrange for the temporary parking permit at 306-975-2460.

Enforcement
Parking Enforcement conducts patrols of the residential parking permit zones and responds to complaints about violations. Any vehicle parked on the street longer than the posted time restriction may be ticketed if a valid Residential, Visitor or Temporary Parking Permit is not displayed. If you wish to report parking violations or permit abuse, please call Parking Enforcement at 306-975-8344. It is illegal to create, use or display a false permit.
Lost or Stolen Permits
Lost permits will not be replaced. If the permit is lost, the holder may re-apply to the City for a new one at regular cost. Stolen permits will be replaced at no cost, if proof is provided that the permit(s) was stolen (i.e. insurance claim, police report).
Change of address or vehicle
A permit holder must notify the City of change of address or a new license plate number in order to ensure their permit is valid. If the permit is no longer required because of a relocation or sale/disposal of a vehicle, the permit must be returned to the City.
