The City of Saskatoon will be performing a series of upgrades to Leif Erickson Park in 2024 as a part of the Green Network Project, funded in part by the Government of Canada's Natural Infrastructure Fund. The upgrade work will include the installation of a food forest demonstration site, irrigation system improvements and naturalized plantings.

We are informing the surrounding community and user groups on what they can expect during the Leif Erickson Park Upgrade project.

How can you get involved?  

The City hosted a Come & Go Information Session for residents to view the park design plans, ask questions and provide feedback, on February 8, 2024, at the Westmount School (Library), 411 Avenue J N, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.

What is the Leif Erickson Park Upgrade Project?
In 2024, Leif Erickson Park will receive upgrades as part of the City's Green Network Project, funded in part by the Government of Canada's Natural Infrastructure Fund. The upgrade work will  include the installation of a food forest demonstration site, irrigation system improvements and naturalized plantings.

Portions of the park will be closed throughout construction and the establishment of newly planted areas. More detailed closure information will be confirmed after the tender is awarded and the contractor develops a construction schedule. 

Why are we doing this work?
As part of the work being done through the Natural Infrastructure Fund (NIF) Green Network Project, Leif Erickson Park was initially identified in 2023 as a location for the installation of a Food Forest Demonstration Site. After more detailed review and consideration through the Park Irrigation & Naturalization Improvements Project, Leif Erickson Park was also selected to receive additional park upgrades including irrigation and naturalization improvements.

The coordination of these projects will reduce construction impacts, save time and money by reducing the number of contracts and consolidating design/installation work, and optimize the use of the NIF grant funding.
