Incentives for Builders & Developers
Saskatoon City Council has set a target of 500 affordable dwelling units annually, to be achieved with the participation and partnership of numerous sectors including government-supported providers, financial institutions, developers, investors and faith-based groups.
Capital Funding & Property Tax Abatements
Eligible Affordable housing projects can qualify for funding assistance in the form of a cash grant of 10% of the total project costs. Any affordable rental project that is provided on a non-profit basis is eligible to receive a 5-year abatement of the incremental increase in property taxes. Housing providers must apply to the Planning and Development Branch to be considered for an incentive.
- In 2023, available capital funding will be prioritized to support Round 3 of the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) Rapid Housing Initiative (RHI). If available capital funding remains in 2023 once the RHI projects are confirmed and supported a call for applications will commence in June 2023.
- Affordable rental projects provided on a non-profit basis continue to be eligible to receive a 5-year abatement of the incremental increase in property taxes. Housing providers can contact the Planning and Development Department (housinginfo@saskatoon.ca) if interested in a tax abatement incentive.
