The day aims to raise awareness of the devastating impact of the Indian residential school system on Indigenous people, their families and the social fabric of the community, and supports the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Call to Action #80.

As fall sets in and the leaves hit the ground, residents are reminded to properly dispose of their fallen leaves and other yard waste, preventing them from blowing onto boulevards and sidewalks and collecting in gutters which can cause flooding in the spring. It is the homeowner’s responsibility to maintain sidewalks and boulevards adjacent to their property; pushing or blowing leaves onto the street is not allowed.

Shaw Centre opened its doors to the public on September 26, 2009 and is one of six Leisure Centres operated by the City. To celebrate Shaw’s 10th anniversary, the public is invited to attend the ‘10 Days of Shaw’, running September 26 – October 5, 2019, which includes 10 days of prize giveaways, fitness demonstrations and discounts for the public. On Saturday, October 5, the public is invited to join staff and special guests for birthday treats in the lobby at 1:00 p.m. and the facility will be offering a celebratory family admission rate of $10.

The University of Saskatchewan (USask) and the City of Saskatoon are partnering on a new program to help solve challenging urban issues through the power of research collaboration.

The new $100,000 cost-shared program—Research Junction—will involve research teams of at least one USask researcher and one City of Saskatoon staff member working together to address community needs around issues that include urban planning, reconciliation, transit, environmental sustainability, and youth issues.

The Sid Buckwold Bridge remains on schedule to fully reopen to traffic in October. The first of a two-year complete bridge rehabilitation began in April and includes deck repairs, new asphalt, new barriers, walkway widening, a new drainage system and resurfacing of the Idylwyld Drive ramps over 19th Street.

Saskatoon Transit’s ClassPass program is a resounding success! The numbers are in after two full years of offering the program, proving it's been well received. Since the program’s inception, over 1,000 requests have been approved - providing free transit services to 26,451 students for class field trips. Most field trips take place in May and June with 2,256 participants in May 2019 and 2,323 participants in June 2019.

City crews have begun annual winterization of the 450 irrigation systems in Saskatoon parks and along roadway streetscapes. Winterization is an important maintenance procedure to help ensure the longevity of the City’s irrigation infrastructure.

Irrigation winterization involves the use of large compressors that force air through the irrigation system, removing any residual water so it will not freeze within the underground pipes. The force of compressed air exiting through sprinkler heads may pick up and propel debris within the work zone.

The City wants to warn residents about an identified scam involving phone calls, texts or emails appearing to come from Saskatoon Light and Power. The message indicates that the resident either has a utility refund or that they are owed money due to over-billing, a web link is then included to provide your banking information. Scammers typically use the information they gather this way to get money or commit identity theft.

A number of concerned residents have contacted the City on this matter.
