COVID-19 Response

Weekly residential garbage (black cart) collection begins Monday, May 18

Your collection day hasn’t changed, only the date that weekly collection begins. Your online Collection Calendar has been updated to reflect this change, so please check your schedule to ensure you don't miss your collection day. Weekly collections will remain in effect until the end of September. As we continue to make every effort to ensure the health and safety of our workforce and the community, please remember to practice safe and sanitary waste disposal and ensure proper cart placement to help reduce the spread of the virus.

Saskatoon Regional Waste Management Centre (Landfill)

Cash transactions are not being accepted at the Landfill until further notice, to help reduce the spread of the virus. Credit and debit are still accepted, as well as direct invoicing options for those haulers who have commercial accounts with the City.

Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Drop-off Days

The Sunday, June 7 event will proceed as scheduled but with enhanced guidelines and restrictions; more details will be provided as they become available. If your HHW material must be dealt with urgently, and if your situation permits, we encourage you to consult the Waste Wizard to find other means of safe disposal for this material. If you intend on taking material to businesses that accept HHW, please contact them first to ensure they are open and in a position to accommodate drop-offs at this time. Visit the HHW page for more details.

 Household Glass Program

SARCAN has made the decision to close locations across Saskatchewan, meaning the Household Glass Program will be on hold until they re-open. While residential recycling collections continue, we ask that residents please try to avoid overfilling their Blue Cart/Bin and hang on to their clean and dry recyclables until their next collection day. Household glass is still accepted in the Blue Cart/Bin, however, we encourage residents to hang on to these items until SARCAN resumes operations. Visit the Household Glass Program page for more details.

 Waste Collection

Waste collection is an essential service to our community and our staff are continuing their routes as scheduled at this time. During this time, we ask that you please help protect the health and safety of our staff and recycling partners and reduce the spread of the virus by following these guidelines:

  • Bag your garbage
  • Do NOT place loose used tissues and napkins in your bin as they can become wind-blown when the lid opens during collection.
  • Do NOT discard used protective gloves or masks on the ground; place these items in a bag and dispose in household or black bin garbage.
  • Do NOT overfill your carts or leave loose items on the ground
  • IF YOU'RE SICK: place ANY item that has come into contact with your mouth, nose or eyes into the garbage; even items that you normally place into your Blue Cart or Bin (eg. water/beverage bottles, pop cans, milk/juice cartons, etc.)
  • Ensure accessible cart placement to avoid manual handling by the driver and return your cart to your property after collection.
  • Don’t miss pick-up day! Your Collection Calendar is available online. Sign up for updates, get the Saskatoon Recycle & Waste app, or print your own. Please remind your neighbours if you notice their carts have not been placed out for collection.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION!
