Naming Saskatoon
The Names Master List is a list of names for future naming or re-naming of streets, parks and other civic properties that has been approved by City Council. New names are frequently submitted for consideration by developers, civic departments and the general public.
To make sure that names are suitably assigned, the City of Saskatoon has adopted a policy (Council Policy C09-008 Naming of Civic Property and Development Areas) for evaluating and selecting names. All name submissions follow the same selection procedure.
If you have a name that you would like to have considered, or you believe that an existing street, park or other civic property should be renamed, please check out our Naming Saskatoon brochure for more information or complete our online application.
For additional information on naming or re-naming a street, park or civic controlled property, please contact the Planning & Development Division.
Legacy Review Project
The City of Saskatoon has over 1,500 named streets, parks, buildings, landmarks, and commemorations and monuments. In total, these named places and assets are a reflection of how the City has identified and seen itself since its incorporation in 1906.
Since 1906, Saskatoon’s population has grown and diversified. The launch of a Legacy Review Project in 2024 recognizes the need for the City to develop a strategy to address naming, renaming, place identity, and commemoration, as well as other aspects that contribute to improving the recognition of the histories of Indigenous peoples, newcomers, women, and other marginalized communities in Saskatoon.

Place Identity Framework
The Saskatoon Place Identity Framework was adopted by City Council on May 21, 2025. The Framework guides the City in applying place identity principles to the naming and identifying of new place and assets including commemorations and monuments. The Framework challenges Saskatoon to recognize change and accept new perspectives while honouring and reflecting upon its past and creating a better future.
A first step in implementing the Framework will be a revised Council Policy C09-008 Naming of Civic Property and Development Areas. The revised Naming Policy will provide specific tools and an administrative means for generating and applying new place names as well as conditions for renaming or reframing existing place names. It is anticipated that the revised Naming Policy will be brought forward in late summer 2025 for Council consideration.
Please Note
Please be advised that we are conducting a review of the Civic Naming policy as part of the Legacy Review Project. While the review is ongoing, naming submissions and renaming suggestions are not being accepted.
