Winter BYXE Week invites Saskatoon to keep rolling all winter long
January 29, 2026 - 9:00am
Are you ready to roll right through winter? Residents are invited to embrace cold-weather cycling during Winter BYXE Week, taking place February 7 to 15, presented by the City of Saskatoon in partnership with Saskatoon Cycles.
Winter BYXE Week celebrates staying active and getting around on two wheels while enjoying the snowy Saskatoon landscape. A variety of activities and events are planned throughout the week, including a scavenger hunt, photo contest and the signature Bike to Work Day on Thursday, February 12.
Bike to Work Day encourages residents to try winter cycling as part of their daily routine. Local businesses and organizations will host commuter stations around the city, offering refreshments, snacks and a warm welcome to people travelling by bike.
Winter cycling is a convenient and affordable way to stay active and boost physical and mental well-being, while reducing traffic congestion and emissions. Whether commuting or just riding for fun, winter biking helps keep Saskatoon moving all year long.
Residents are encouraged to explore local bike routes and take part in events throughout the week. If you live too far to bike the entire way, Saskatoon Transit buses are equipped with free, easy-to-use bike racks, making it simple to combine cycling and transit.
Find event details, activities, and updates at saskatooncycles.org/winter-byxe, and join the Winter BYXE Week Facebook Event to stay connected.
This winter let’s keep the good times rolling!
Saskatoon Light & Power to match SaskPower: new electrical rates effective February 1
January 29, 2026 - 7:00am
City Council at its January 28, 2026, meeting, approved a 3.9 per cent electrical rate increase effective February 1, 2026, and a further 3.9 per cent increase effective February 1, 2027, to align with SaskPower’s proposed rate adjustments.
In alignment with SaskPower, the February 1, 2026, increase will be implemented on an interim basis. This will be in place until final approval is received from the Saskatchewan Rate Review Panel following the public rate review process, expected to conclude this summer.
For an average residential customer using 625 kWh per month, the monthly bill is expected to increase by $5.61 in February 2026 and an additional $5.85 in February 2027. The impact for commercial customers will vary based on their rate category and electricity consumption, resulting in an overall 3.9 per cent increase.
The main drivers for the rate increase, as indicated in SaskPower’s current application, include increased capital investments, operating, maintenance, fuel, and administration expenses.
Saskatoon Light & Power (SL&P), as a reseller of electricity, matches its power rates to those established by SaskPower. This ensures equitable rates between utility customers in Saskatoon regardless of whether they live within SL&P’s service area or SaskPower's.
The previous general electricity rate increase occurred on April 1, 2023, when a system-wide average increase of 4 per cent came into effect. Since then, the Carbon Charge was updated annually until April 1, 2025, when the Government of Saskatchewan suspended it temporarily.
Please visit saskatoon.ca/ElectricalRates for full details on electrical rates effective February 1, 2026.

At this time, the City will continue with its established winter level of service, which focuses on responding to areas on an “as-needed” basis rather than broad residential grading.
If residents have concerns about snow or rutting on their street, they are encouraged to contact the Customer Care Center at Customercare@saskatoon.ca or (306) 975-2476. A Roadways crew will inspect the area and, where conditions are found to pose a safety concern or significantly affect mobility, grading will be completed to restore safe travel and mobility.
Crews will continue to monitor residential street conditions closely as weather and road conditions change. If conditions deteriorate, the City is prepared to adjust its approach, by scaling-up maintenance activities if needed.
More information about winter road maintenance and service levels is available at saskatoon.ca/snow.

City of Saskatoon maintains highly sought S & P Global Ratings ‘AAA’/Stable credit rating for 24th year; highest scoring across all categories
January 12, 2026 - 1:30pm
- “The City’s administration remains largely stable, with significant experience and a record of effectively enacting fiscal policies.”
- "The City consistently produces detailed annual budget documents. It also prepares multi-year operating and capital budgets alongside comprehensive long-term capital and borrowing plans. This underpins fiscal transparency and discipline, in our assessment.”
- "The stable outlook reflects S&P Global Ratings’ expectation that Saskatoon will continue to benefit from a resilient economy that supports budgetary performance, maintain exceptional liquidity, and keep its debt burden manageable at below 45% of adjusted operating revenues."
- “In our view, Saskatoon's strong and prudent financial management is a key credit strength.”
- “We view both management accountability and transparency as strong, as reflected in ongoing disclosures and grounded assumptions.”
The City of Saskatoon continues to hold the highest credit rating possible from S&P Global Ratings (S&P) since it first began affirming the City’s rating in 2002.
S&P, has today, confirmed its ‘AAA’ credit rating with a “Stable” Outlook, for the City of Saskatoon. This is the 24th year in a row the City has achieved the highly regarded rating and is among only a handful of Canadian municipalities to have it.
“We are proud to be one of only six cities in Canada to receive the ‘AAA’ Credit Rating with a "Stable" Outlook from S&P and the only city to receive the highest scoring possible across all six rating factor assessment categories,” says Clae Hack, Chief Financial Officer. “This rating confirms that the City is managing its finances responsibly as we continue to focus on planning appropriately to meet the needs of our growing city now and for years to come.”
Saskatoon benefits from an extremely predictable and supportive local and regional government framework, the S&P analysis states, and has demonstrated high institutional stability and evidence of systemic extraordinary support in times of financial distress.
Key quotes from S&P’s analysis, rationale and outlook contributing to the confirmation of the City’s strong credit rating as stated within January 12, 2026, S&P Global Ratings Direct® Report for the City of Saskatoon include:
“We are moving forward with significant strategic investments, such as our Bus Rapid Transit System ‘Link’, expansion to the water treatment plant and new fire stations to support the needs of our expanding city,” Hack says. “We have high confidence in our plans to use debt strategically to deliver our large capital projects in a fiscally responsible manner – as supported through S&P’s credit rating, assessment and comments.”
Credit ratings are one of several tools that investors and lenders use when making decisions regarding an organization’s future financial strengths and weaknesses. For the City of Saskatoon, the ‘AAA’/Stable rating serves as an indication of the City’s credit risk and ability to meet its financial obligations in full and on time. The rating is also viewed as critical to support stakeholders’ confidence and the trust of our community.

Priority Street Snow Removal is underway
January 6, 2026 - 10:30am
City and contractor crews have begun snow removal operations on priority roads across the city. This is expected to take up to eight weeks, barring any unforeseen weather events.
Snow removal is different from snow clearing, which includes regular plowing and grading. During snow removal, accumulated and windrowed snow is physically removed and hauled to one of three City-operated snow storage facilities. Priority street snow removal is activated when on-street storage capacity is reached, in order to create capacity for future snowfalls.
This work also helps restore full driving lane width and improve sightlines at intersections. This work is typically done at night to reduce the risk to workers, traffic, cyclists and pedestrians.
Snow is not stored or windrowed within posted accessibility parking stalls, school loading zones or Saskatoon Transit stops.
If another snow event occurs during snow removal operations, crews will temporarily return to regular plowing and grading activities to maintain safety and mobility. Once priority routes are again passable, crews will resume snow removal work.
Residents are reminded to watch for blue and amber flashing lights and to give road maintenance equipment the space needed to operate safely, particularly during periods of reduced visibility.
More information about winter road maintenance and service levels is available at saskatoon.ca/snow.

These notices provide updated information that helps determine property taxes for the upcoming year.
The City’s 2026 Assessment Roll is now open for public review
From January 5 to February 6, 2026, property owners can review their property’s assessment details or look up other properties in Saskatoon. This review period is an opportunity to confirm the information the City has on file for your property.
“The 30-Day Assessment Review and Appeal period is an important time for property owners to check their assessment for accuracy, fairness and equity,” says Bryce Trew, City Assessor. “Our team is here to answer your assessment-related questions, connect with us first before considering filing a formal appeal in 2026.”
How to review the 2026 Assessment Roll

Scheduled tree maintenance begins in Mount Royal and Buena Vista
January 2, 2026 - 10:00am
Starting Monday, January 5, 2026, crews will begin pruning trees on civic property in Mount Royal and parts of Buena Vista as part of the City's Boulevard Tree Maintenance Program. Tree maintenance in these neighbourhoods will continue until March 31, 2026. The remainder of Buena Vista will be pruned later in the year.
The Boulevard Tree Maintenance Program follows a regular pruning cycle to help preserve the health of the City's tree inventory, eliminate hazards and provide clearance from buildings, signs, streetlights and utility wires.
Tree maintenance often requires road restrictions. The City reminds pedestrians, cyclists and drivers to ensure safety is a priority by respecting the work zone and obeying all road restrictions and signage.
For more information, visit saskatoon.ca/treemaintenance.
