Public Washrooms and 24/7 Navigation Hub
Public washrooms are available across Saskatoon in parks and public spaces. The City has been working to provide safe and enhanced access to washrooms to people in need.
2024 Washroom Trailer Pilot & Outdoor Navigation Hub
In May 2024, City Council approved the purchase of a used washroom trailer to provide a staffed, all-day service for the Riversdale and Pleasant Hill neighbourhoods for residents in need of access to safe, clean public washrooms. Council also approved funding to provide staffing at a riverbank washroom location and for extra public access to drinking water. A total of $700,000 was allocated to both projects, sourced from the Reserve for Capital Expenditures.
The washroom trailer site was accessed over 14,304 times throughout the pilot by people of all ages. The trailer was staffed 24/7 by the Saskatoon Tribal Council (STC) Sawēyihtotān Program, providing a welcoming and safe place. People using this washroom location could use the facilities to wash up, rinse their clothes, have a snack along with a bottle of water or coffee. Sawēyihtotān Outreach also offered additional assistance with accessing emergency shelter and provided transportation and advocacy to connect individuals with other necessary resources.
Riverbank Washrooms
Multiple public washrooms are conveniently located along the riverbank, including at the Festival Headquarters Site, the River Landing Pavilion, and the Mendel Site Park (home to Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan). These facilities are open to the public and are maintained regularly, with both daily and overnight cleaning schedules to keep them clean and accessible. Additional information, including hours of operation can be found at saskatoon.ca/parkamenities.
North Kiwanis Washrooms
The pilot at the North Kiwanis washroom site includes two full-time Commissionaires during regular operating hours located at the permanent washrooms, with access to Sawēyihtotān Outreach Services supports if needed. The pilot is currently operational with full-time security until December 31, 2025.
2025 Outdoor Navigation Hub
Building on the success of the 2024 summer washroom trailer pilot, a plan is in place to bring back the washroom trailer and add a shower trailer. Both will be staffed by STC’s Sawēyihtotān Outreach team. Funding sources are still being determined.
Future Community Navigation Hubs
The City of Saskatoon is seeking community partners to develop Community Navigation Hubs throughout the city. They will include washroom, shower and laundry facilities, water distribution and other navigation and outreach supports. Want to get involved?
