Summer Play Programs (Paddling Pools & Spray Pads)

Spray Pads

Cool off on your own time! All Spray Pad locations offer button-activated water play daily from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM.  Open June 1 to September 4, 2023.

In June (Monday to Friday), spray pads located near school grounds are set to turn off 5 minutes before recess and lunch breaks and will resume 5 minutes after the breaks are over.  Shut-off times will vary according to individual school schedules.

Locations: Refer to the City's Summer Programs  interactive mapping application for a list of all spray pads in the City.  It also includes paddling pool. skate pad, youth centres, outdoor pools and travelling van locations.

Some spray pads host the Summer Play Program and are listed in the table below. Spray Pads are not supervised outside of Play Program hours of operation.   Spray Pad locations that do not host the Summer Play Program are:

  • Arbor Creek, Arbor Creek Park, 1015 Kenderdine Road
  • Erindale, Ernest Lindner Park, 225 Kenderdine Road
  • Nutrien Playland at Kinsmen Park, 950 Spadina Crescent East
  • Riverlanding, Friendship Park, Spadina Crescent East
  • Silverwood Heights, WJL Harvey Park, 403 Silverwood Road
  • Parkridge - Closed Summer 2023 for construction

Closures:  Check Leisure Facilities Service Alerts for updates on site closures due to maintenance and inclement weather.

New!  Water Conservation Pilot Project

As part of the Water Conservation Strategy, the City is also pleased to announce that it is taking the lead to conserve water. A project focused on seven spray pads using a combination of misters and lower-flow nozzles will be initiated in the coming weeks to reduce water use. These seven spray pads are in Briarwood, Evergreen, Hampton Village, Pleasant Hill, River Heights, Stonebridge and Willowgrove. Installation time is minimal and will not impact operations. These upgrades are expected to reduce water use by 20 to 60% while maintaining 100% of the fun.

Summer Play Program (Ages 2-12)

Free!  Drop in for waterplay, sports, crafts, games, music and more!  The summer play program operates at spray pads and paddling pools around the city.  See the list of locations below.
Operation Dates:
Weekday Sites:  July 4 to August 23, 2023
Weekend Sites:  July 8 to August 20, 2023

NOTE: Paddling Pools operate within Summer Play Program hours of operation. Fill and drain times for paddling pools vary - please check with staff to confirm hours.

^New! Paddling Pool Dechlorination Process

To reduce the amount of chemical going into the storm water drain system, The City of Saskatoon is required by Saskatchewan Environmental Protection to dechlorinate the Confederation Park Paddling Pool.  This process is unique to Confederation Park because it is connected to a storm line as opposed to a sanitary sewer line like the other paddling pools in the city.

This process involves adding a neutralizing agent to the chlorine. After this chemical is added, it is no longer safe to enter the water under our public health operating license. Therefore, the water is drained, and the pool and park area inside the fence will be closed.

The dechlorination process takes 30 minutes and it takes an additional 30 minutes to drain the pool.  Dryland programming will continue in the rec unit and adjacent park for the remainder of the day.   The dryland-only schedule is as follows:

Confederation Park Dryland-Only Programming

  • Monday-Thursday: 5:00pm-6:00pm
  • Friday: 3:30pm-4:30pm
  • Saturday/Sunday/August 1 STAT: 4:00pm-5:00pm

There are plans to change the drains lines from storm to sanitary next summer.
