Garage and Yard Sales
Covid-19 Update: Garage and Yard Sales Are Permitted
Garage and yard sales are currently permitted in accordance with the guidelines and restrictions as required by the Chief Medical Health Officer and regulated under the Government of Saskatchewan's Re-Open Saskatchewan plan. The following guidelines are intended for anyone planning on hosting or attending a garage or yard sale at a private dwelling such as a house, condominium or apartment:
- Gathering sizes must not exceed the current limits as per the Public Health Order.
- Sales are to be hosted by a single family and should be held outdoors. Tables may be setup at the front of the garage door opening; however, customers must remain outside the garage.
- Sellers are to clean and disinfect tables and sale items prior to the sale, and buyers are to disinfect purchased items where possible.
- Do not visit and/or attend a garage or yard sale if you are feeling unwell.
- Wash hands often and use/provide hand sanitizer, especially after handling money (use cashless payment if possible).
- Maintain a physical distance of two metres between individuals. Signs that promote two-metre physical distancing between attendees should be posted.
For complete guidance on garage sales, see the Yard and Garage Sale Guidelines provided by the government.
Garage and yard sales can be a useful (and fun!) way to reduce, reuse and recycle. Here are some things you should know:
- Garage or yard sales may be conducted on any site in a R (residential) or M (institutional) district by someone living at the property, or by a non-profit group associated with a place of worship, public school, community association or other similar group or organization.
- No more than four sales per site in one calendar year.
- Sales can last a maximum of three consecutive days.
- A permit or license is NOT required to operate a garage sale.
- The retail sale of new items is not permitted.
If you are putting up a temporary garage sale sign, please make sure to observe the Temporary Sign Bylaw; otherwise you could face a fine. Reminder: illegal signs will be REMOVED.
