A by-election has been called to fill the vacant Ward 5 trustee office in the Saskatoon School Division No. 13 - Saskatoon Public Schools. The election will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.
Eligibility
To be eligible for nomination as a candidate in the election, you must:
- be at least 18 years of age;
- be a Canadian citizen;
- have resided in Saskatchewan for at least six consecutive months prior to the date on which nomination papers are filed
- have resided in the City of Saskatoon for at least three consecutive months prior to the date on which nominations papers are filed;
- have all persons signing the nomination paper be eligible voters residing in civic ward 5.

Candidate Nomination
To be a candidate in the 2026 Ward 5 by-election for Saskatoon School Division No. 13, a person must compete and file the prescribed nomination papers with the Returning Officer or designated nomination officer from Wednesday, September 9, 2026 until 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.
To submit a nomination to be a candidate in the election, you must provide:
- completed nomination form - signed by the candidate and witnessed by two people;
- the appropriate number of eligible endorsements (10 signatures from Ward 5 public school voters)
- $100 nomination deposit fees
Withdrawing a Nomination
If you no longer wish to be a candidate, you must file a written statement to the Returning Officer or designated nomination officer on or before 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2026. The statement must be signed by the candidate and two witnesses or the Returning Officer, and the deposit fee will be refunded.
Campaign Finance Management
Total campaign expenses for public and separate school board trustee candidates must not exceed $10,000 for any election expenses.
- All candidates must keep an accurate record of all contributions received and expenses incurred to their campaigns and report their campaign expenses in Policy 25 – Board Elections, Campaign Contributions and Expenses whether they were elected or not.
- The filing deadline is January 26, 2027.
