Spring sweep complete for 2026
The 2026 residential spring sweep program has been completed, with crews finishing select streets that were initially skipped for operational or weather-related reasons. This annual program helps improve roadway safety and drainage, and contributes to cleaner neighbourhoods.
Over the past several weeks, crews swept high-traffic roadways, medians, park frontages and residential neighbourhoods, removing winter sand and debris from city streets. During the 2026 program, crews swept a total centreline distance of approximately 970 kilometres and removed approximately 13,500 tonnes of debris from Saskatoon roadways.
Spring sweep began with pre-sweep operations on April 29, followed by the residential program beginning May 4. Crews completed 54 days of sweeping. Sweeping operations were impacted by rain, requiring schedule adjustments throughout the program.
The City thanks residents for their patience and cooperation throughout the program, particularly those who moved their vehicles to allow crews full access to the curb. Public cooperation helps crews complete the work efficiently and reduces the need for return visits.
While the residential program is now complete, street sweeping will continue in industrial areas and at locations that were inaccessible due to construction.
