Better Buildings
The Better Buildings Program aims to improve the energy and water efficiency of Saskatoon’s homes and buildings to increase affordability, reduce carbon emissions, improve the quality of our buildings, and prepare for a changing climate. The Better Buildings Program includes tools, resources, and financing to help homeowners, businesses, and the City (local government) improve energy and water efficiency of new and existing buildings to meet our net-zero by 2050 carbon reduction goals and prepare for the future.
Better Homes & Buildings Roadmap
The forthcoming Better Homes and Building Roadmap will outline a flexible and phased approach to adopting higher energy performance tiers of the National Model Building Energy Codes, supported by outreach, incentives, community services, regulation, and City-led action. The goal of the Roadmap will be to enable homes and buildings to be more efficient, affordable to operate, resilient to climate impacts, and prepared for a net-zero future, while giving the community and industry time to build capacity and transition thoughtfully.

Targets and Progress
The City has established objectives, targets, and key performance indicators through the Climate Action Strategy for both community and civic buildings to move toward more energy-efficient and net-zero-ready buildings. Progress will be tracked through the Climate Dashboard.

Renewable Energy & Efficient Civic Buildings
The City of Saskatoon is striving to reduce the emissions created by our civic buildings by using less energy and switching to renewable and low-emissions energy sources where possible.
