Current Weather Conditions

Extreme cold temperatures, during which de-icing materials are less effective and ice builds up on streets, especially bridge desks, overpasses and at high-traffic intersections.

Snow Accumulation: 17cm

Current Road Conditions

  • Some slippery sections on priority streets
  • Some snow covered streets

Current Winter Road Activities

  • Grading snow from Priority 2 and 3 streets, including the main streets in a neighbourhood, Saskatoon Transit routes and school zones.
  • Crews are monitoring streets for icy conditions 24 hours a day and applying pre-wet salt/sand combination (used to soften ice and improve traction in more severe cold temperatures).

Message to Residents

  • Even with the use of de-icing material, extra moisture may cause slippery conditions during peak driving times, especially on bridges where ice particles may be in the air above the river.
  • Be aware of changing weather that can affect road and sidewalk conditions.
  • Watch for blue and amber flashing lights on snow maintenance equipment. If you encounter equipment on the road, slow down, remain at least 15 meters (2.5 car lengths) behind, and be ready to stop.
  • Clear your business sidewalks within 24 hours and residential sidewalks within 48 hours.
