Future East Side Leisure Centre
The City of Saskatoon is planning a new Leisure Centre in the Holmwood Sector to serve residents on the east side of the city and support Saskatoon’s growing need for recreation, wellness and community programming.
The Future East Side Leisure Centre is envisioned as a district-level, multi-purpose facility with aquatic, fitness, gymnasium and community spaces similar to Lakewood and Lawson Civic Centres. It is not mean to be a competitive training facility like Shaw Centre of Saskatoon Field House. The facility is intended to provide inclusive, accessible recreation opportunities for people of all ages and abilities.
About the Project
This project is part of the City of Saskatoon Recreation and Parks Master Plan Facilities Game Plan, approved by City Council in 2017. The initial project budget and ICIP funding were approved in 2023.
The project supports the City’s 2026-2029 Strategic Plan by investing in recreation infrastructure that promotes healthy, active lifestyles and strong community connections.
On June 24, 2026, City Council received a report outlining community engagement results, options for the new facility, budget implications and analysis for each option. The report also sought Council’s direction on the future of the project.
Council approved moving forward with a full multi-purpose Leisure Centre based on the current concept. The facility is estimated to cost approximately $95 million and reflects community feedback and funding requirements.
Council also directed Administration to continue discussions with the Saskatoon YMCA regarding a potential operating partnership and the possibly of an expanded facility scope. Administration will report back to City Council on the viability of these opportunities.
Facility Amenities
The facility will be fully accessible with proposed features including:
- A versatile aquatic centre with a 6-lane pool lap pool, leisure pool and instructional areas
- A gymnasium space for court sports and community programming
- Approximately 4,000 square feet of fitness and weight room training space
- Multi-purpose rooms and child minding spaces
- High standards for accessibility, universal design and inclusive change room space
