Fire in Laundry room - 400 Block of Pendygrasse Road

For immediate release: August 5, 2022 - 6:43pm

At 3:06 p.m., on August 5 2022, the Saskatoon Fire Department received a call that the fire alarm in a 3 storey, multi-residential building was ringing and black smoke was coming from the laundry room.  Dispatched to the fire were three fire engines, one ladder truck and one rescue unit.  On arrival, fire crews reported occupants evacuating the building.  First arriving fire crews entered the building and reported black smoke coming from the door serving the laundry room.  Upon entering the room, a trash can on fire was extinguished.  This fire was brought under control at 3:17 p.m.  The Fire Investigator was requested to attend.  Ventilation to remove all smoke from the building was performed.  Fire crews reset the fire alarm system.

When fire crews were ready to leave the scene, the incident was turned over to the SFD Fire Investigator.

Fire Investigation has concluded.  Our Fire Investigator identified an open flame device, a lighter, which was seized and taken as evidence by the police service.  Investigation is ongoing as to the cause of the fire by the Saskatoon Police Service.  Damage is estimated at $4000 and fire originated in a trash can in a corner of the laundry room.
