Industrial fire in Corman Park

For immediate release: December 20, 2020 - 7:01pm

The Saskatoon Fire Department received a 911 call at 3:06 pm, Sunday December 20, 2020 reporting black smoke coming from a building on Peters Avenue in the North Corman Industrial Park.  Dispatched to the scene were 2 engines, a brush truck, a tanker a rescue and the battalion chief.

The first arriving apparatus observed lots of smoke but no visible flames.  The incident commander assigned an attack crew to enter the building and seek out the source of fire.  This initial entry was made and then recalled upon encountering acetylene and oxygen.  An alternative entry point was made and crews were able to get water onto the fire creating steam that obscured visibility.   Once the fire growth was under control. a large overhead door was opened to provide ventilation and improve visibility.

An additional 2 engines, a tanker and a tanker form Warman Fire department were brought in to provide relief for working firefighters and additional water supply.  Fire crews managed to connect a winch to a semi and pull it out of the building, while suppression flare ups on a semi trailer.

The fire was brought under control and extinguished with the last truck leaving the scene at 5:47 pm.  There in no damage estimate or cause to the fire as the Saskatoon Fire Department does not investigate fires outside of Saskatoon.
